| To highlight
the unparalleled importance of Network for the Promotion of Asian
Cinema (NETPAC) in the development of international cinema, the 2010
Cinemanila International Film Festival has included in its line-up
of events the screening of past winners of the NETPAC Award. NETPAC
is considered a prestigious program in film festivals, and NETPAC
Awards have been presented in A-list festivals such as Berlinale and
Rotterdam Film Festivals. To date, the NETPAC Award is now given at
28 international film festivals in 21 countries and 5 continents.
NETPAC is also marking twenty years of productive service to the cinema community this year. It first took part in Cinemanila International Film Festival in 1999, when ‘Birth of a Butterfly’ by Mojtaba Raei (Iran) and ‘Pila Balde’ by Jeffrey Jeturian (Philippines) both won the NETPAC Jury Award. The following NETPAC Award-winning pictures are set for screening: ‘Animal Town’ by Kyu-hwan Jeon (South Korea / USA, 2009), ‘August Sun’ by Prasanna Vithanage (Sri Lanka, 2003), ‘Au Revoir, Taipei’ by Arvin Chen (USA / Taiwan, 2010), ‘Floating Lives’ by Nguyen Panh Quang Binh (Vietnam, 2010), and ‘Kaleldo’ by Brillante Mendoza (Philippines, 2006). The NETPAC award-winning films screening event is presented by the Cinemanila International Film Festival and supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines. The 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival runs from December 1-5, 2010 at the Robinsons Movieworld Galleria, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.
