Fresh from being decorated with the Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart by no less than President Benigno Aquino III, Rodolfo Vera-Quizon, 83, or most popularly known as Dolphy the King of Philippine comedy, will receive yet another prestigious honor to recognize his invaluable contribution to the country’s entertainment industry. This year, the Cinemanila International Film Festival will bestow the Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Quizon during the Opening Night of the festival on December 1, 2010. He will join the pantheon of exceptional individuals who received the same award such as screenwriter Paul Schrader (2009), film director Quentin Tarantino (2007), film programmers Aruna Vasudev and Philip Cheah (2006), and Pusan International Film Festival founding director Kim Dong Ho (2005).

With a combined total of 209 movies and television shows Dolphy has done, the Comedy King is definitely one of the most prolific artists in Philippine entertainment industry. His versatility is also legendary. It’s been proven by his performances in both TV and cinema, such as the mega-hit and long-running TV series ‘John and Marsha’ (1977) and ‘Home Along Da Riles’ (1992) and blockbuster films ‘Facifica Falayfay’ by Luciano Carlos (1969) and ‘Ang Tatay Kong Nanay’ by Lino Brocka (1978). He also performed in radio drama and stage shows in his early days in showbiz. In 2001, Dolphy received his most prestigious acting honor at the Brussels International Independent Film Festival for playing the title role in ‘Markova’ by Gil Portes (2000).

The Lifetime Achievement Award is a celebrated highlight of the festival presented by the Cinemanila International Film Festival and supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
